Episode 11 - The Magic Man - 1-11-2014

The previous episodes were about the opening of the store, and the trials / tribulations therein.  They also dabbled in the back stories of the Gamers Link Adventure, but it occurs to me that you might not know who I am.  Let's just say this is an 'about the author', with an intent to get everyone up to speed.

First off, my name is Cassidy Silver, and I am 28ish years old.  I am married with two young kids, and a badass dog.  I live in Jefferson Park, which is pretty nice, and I have Crohn's Disease, which sucks.  I played in a band called Cat or Mouse for about five years, and we recorded some good music.  After we broke up, I started getting back into gaming, and became addicted to a casual variant of the game Magic.  After starting a blog about the game, I answered a Writers Wanted ad at a huge gaming website - TCGPlayer.com - and I still work them today.

I used my article as a stepping stone into the podcast world, appearing on the show Commandercast regularly.  I was asked to start a new podcast with a fellow Magic blogger, and one of my best good pals, Calvin 'Captain Red Zone' Russell, and a guy I hadn't worked with before, Christian Renoe.  I helped out Calvin when he was writing a lot for his blog, and he helped me out with a few articles here and there.  All three of us had a really wicked chemistry together, so it was kind of like insta-BFFs.  Our show - Off Color Cast - never really caught on, probably because we are just awful people.  We just recently recorded our 50th episode after a two month hiatus.  It should be available soon, and I'm sure it will be funny to only three people in the world.

Also, I am an author of a book - Sun Snuff - which is going to be available at GLC as soon as I remember to do it and have money.  My primary ambition in life is writing novels, set in a world I created.  I have plenty of them written in notebooks, and really it's just a matter of transferring them to a digital medium (and editing them).  Besides the Sun Snuff series, I am also working on another series that is set in the same universe, and I've got like 7 of those written in these notebooks.

Anyways, I am pretty well known for Magic, and after playing, talking, and writing about it for close to three years now, I've become somewhat of an 'expert' on the game.  I have huge gaps in knowledge, to be sure, but for the most part, I get the important parts of Magic, especially the financial ones.  This is pretty much what I brought to the table when we opened shop, and I put my considerable collection up as basically a money contribution.  It may seem strange to people who aren't really familiar with Magic and the economics behind it, but the card prices have proved to be stable even when the economy was down.

If you have any questions about Magic when you come to GLC, you are definitely talking to me.  Oddly, Eddie is actually the better teacher of the game, because he is a n00b himself.  I am usually not as great with interacting with new customers, but my regulars know who gives them the good deals (me).  Ed isn't authorized to perform trades after the Strip Mine fiasco of 2013.

The next installment pertaining to Magic will be the rousing tale of competition within the retail waves, but I am going to try to hit on the two big games that support our store.  Next up, we are hitting Warhammer!
